Dyed with black beans and osage, this blouse was the spring board into my exploration of natural dyes. Using the solar dyeing method, the silk pieces of the blouse were wrapped up with the black beans and osage inside and then left to sit in a jar in the sun for over 24 hours. The pieces were then unwrapped, rinsed, and the shirt was assembled. Though osage typically creates a yellow dye, combining it with the black bean caused the colors to mix and create more of a green hue in the areas where the black beans and osage coincide. The paper airplane print was applied using a hand cut block print stamp and used an acrylic based fiber paint.
